ONE ROCK.
Formed by volcanic eruptions over 1 billion years ago and distributed by glacier movement more than 15,000 years ago across the midwest.
The Lake Superior Agate is a type of agate best known for it’s diverse mineral composition, colorful iron-rich banding, contrasting shadows and overall natural beauty. In 1969 the Lake Superior agate was named by the Minnesota Legislature as the official state gemstone.
Where Are They Found?
Lake Superior Agates are most commonly found along the shores of Lake Superior and throughout the upper midwest.
The stone’s primary red color comes from iron found throughout the Iron Range region of upper Minnesota.
Why Do People Collect Agate?
People love collecting agates for many reasons and purposes including use in home decor, making jewelry, growing personal collections for display, tumble & polish, and some just love the thrill of the hunt.

The Agate Dude aspires to build a community of like-minded rock lovers, fueled by the thrill of the next hunt, the natural beauty of the agate, and the deep history of this diverse stone.
